Compassion, in which all ethics must take root, can only attain its full breadth and depth if it embraces all living creatures and does not limit itself to mankind. Albert Schweitzer (1875-1965)
It's not possible to consider a trip to Guyana without considering the non-human animals. Famous for its lush wild life (
jaguars,
anacondas and
tapirs O! my) and
birding (there are over 800 species from 72 families in this tiny country) domestic and quasi-domestic fauna abounds in the coastal region as well. Here are a few I enjoy!
|
Devi the goat (she's actually a sheep that think she's a dog!) |
|
The dogs I adore, Rani & Savi, that welcome Devi into their family |
|
wood ant nest |
|
setting fowl |
|
guinea fowl eating paddy |
|
massive snails - about 10 cm long, in a Bushlot trench |
|
maga (emaciated) horse & offspring |
P.S. When people talk about
tapirs in Guyana they sometimes mean the animal and sometimes refer to an "indigenous" Guyanese vehicle now only found in Eastern Berbice. Check out the link for a pic!
Except the nests, those animals are not that impressive. We have the same here ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love a goat that is actually a sheep, but thinks she is a dog.
